The business research work in India is dominated by large agencies. There are customers who require a small, reliable and cost-effective agency. FV sensed a void in this area since small agencies do not limit themselves to research. FV was conceived to be exclusively a research agency and has remained so.

Its early research was addressed largely to the needs of para-statal companies and Sintex, the largest plastic company in India.

Research and monitoring support for the development sector, and entry into piped/compressed gas market, characterized FV’s portfolio during 2000-05; while its engagement in hotel and real estate sector intensified. It acted as the Regional Development Center of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) in five states in respect of SIDBI’s promotional programs. It facilitated India Brick Project for Swiss Agency for Development Co-operation (SDC). FV was heavily involved in the rehabilitation and disaster relief process, following the Orissa cyclone and the Kutch earthquake. It initiated work on cluster development through diagnosis of handloom clusters at Varansi and Vijaynagar (Assam), and assessment of food parks in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. FV, during this period, acquired all-India footprint.

FV continues, since 2005, to straddle the twin domains: research for development sector and market research for corporate sector; the accent being on energy, infrastructure and hospitality sectors. It has recently upgraded its customer profile with CRISIL, a Standard & Poor’s company, and Reliance Industries Ltd. It has also collaborated closely with Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board.

FV’s presence in the hospitality sector now extends to northern India besides Gujarat and Rajasthan. Its engagement in handloom cluster-development support covers the sister states of eastern India besides Uttar Pradesh and Orissa. It has worked on blue-prints for several handloom cluster-development training institutes.

The growth has been steady and sustained. While the core clientele has remained loyal, there have been impressive additions. The geographical boundaries and range of its work have expanded vastly during the past five years.
